Hello all, I just finished taking my last final and I'm pleased with the grade. But, in all the confusion of studying for that final and taking care of the family I almost forgot to write this blog, so here I am writing this last blog for compostion class. I am so glad to be done with this session. I have enjoyed both of my classes. My nutrition class was very intense and I learned a lot, but am glad it's over. I have also enjoyed this class and I pleased at how much easier I find writing.
I wish everyone good luck in the future with school. Now it's time to sit down and relax for a few days before next session starts.

Finished and turned in
I’m finally done with my research project. It’s been written, rewritten, edited, revised and revised some more and finally finished and turned in. One of the worst problems I have had with writing this paper is that it is such a huge topic. First I had to narrow it down and decide what I was going to write and that was kind of a work in progress. I did a lot of revision while trying to pin down the exact points I wanted to write about, but I suspect this may be a problem that some of my classmates share . Second, I was having trouble finding the more detailed research in the KU Library and had to resort to outside sources, I had already met the requirements need from the KU Library, so I guess that's ok.
The other really big problem I have had while writing this paper is when I feel pressured I get very focused, and then, I have to have something to chew on like gum. I do this when I drive in bad situations and when I write. While writing this paper I ran out of gum, several times, and then I go searching for snack foods. The last time I got into the Easter candy, and then I had to buy more candy. All in all, I think I may have gained a few pounds writing this paper.

Pause the game
Sometimes life seems to run at such a fast and furious speed that I really have trouble keeping up. There are times when life is just a blur. When life gets out of hand like this I find myself thinking like my grandchildren who will be busy playing in the other room or outside and then one of them shouts out “pause the game.” I sometimes wish there was a pause button for real life. Sometimes it is necessary to just stop and take a break or collect your thoughts, and we know this, but keep right on at record breaking speed trying to accomplish the multitude of things that are expected of us. What would happen I wonder if unwanted phone calls were greeted with the message “the number you have reached has paused the game, please try back later.”
When life becomes overwhelming trying to go on without taking a break is sometimes the worst thing you can do. We can become overwhelmed by having a multitude of chores and errands to accomplish as well as becoming overwhelmed with the relationship aspects of our lives. In all of these areas of life we need to learn to “pause the game.” This is not a new problem it’s been around for quite awhile, especially for women. People used to says “stop and smell the roses.” It’s good to be active and goal oriented; but, just remembers to occasionally, pause the game and stop and smell the roses.

Things That Make You Think
Today we had an event happen that has really made me think a bit. I was doing my last project for my nutrition class and had figured that when I finished I would submit it and then do my blog for this week, and as simple as it sounds that's not how I spent my afternoon. It seems that somewhere in a neighboring county a fiber optics line was cut and knocked out cell phone service, internet service and much of the telephone land lines, there was no access to 911 for most people. It also disrupted broadcast from two local radio stations. This one cut fiber optics cable knocked out banking services for the afternoon and left a large portion (several counties)of the Texas Hill Country without a means of communication. What really made me think was how dependent we have become on cell phones and internet. Unfortunately it's not just me that's so dependent on these services, but many other people and many businesses. This afternoon I was forced to dust off the radio and turn it on (I don't have network or cable tv) to find out what was going on. It was an unusual afternoon to say the least. My daughter-in-law came over with the grandkids and after determining all was ok with the world we sat around talking and visiting and listening to the oldies station.

The Writing Process
I will be the first to say I am not a writer, and not only that, writing is very difficult for me. I don't mind doing the research; in fact, I really enjoy doing research. I just don't want to sit down and put it altogether into a document that actually makes sense. I think the problem is that when I'm writing I have to focus all of my attention on that one thing, writing. I would rather spend a few minutes in the kitchen, a few minutes talking on the phone, then looking at something on youtube; maybe I have ADD. But once I get focused I can usually get it done. I have to say I am writing faster than when I started Kaplan. I have had some problems learning how to organise my paper and lay out my paragraphs. But, even that is not as difficult as it used to be. I guess with time and patience we learn what we have to.

Hello all, I had the best of intentions today. I was going to start my school work this morning and get everything finished by early afternoon. But, the sun was finally out and it was such a beautiful day I went out with my husband and we bought supplies and feed for the new chicks we are about to order. We currently have 7 hens and 3 roosters, and wanted to get more hens. Next week we will order 25 chicks to add to the current chickens.
We also bought dirt for the garden. We live in Central Texas and our area is very rocky. We live on a hill that is mostly rock with about an inch of dust over it. What we grow here naturally is rocks (flint and limestone)thistles, cactus, scorpions, and snakes. What we want to grow is vegetables, herbs, berries and fruit trees. We haven't planted anything yet, we are still planning, but it helps to have the dirt here when we finish the raised beds ( can't dig through the rock).
I hope the sunny weather stays for a while. I'm so tired of cloudy and cold. Today it was in the mid 80s. Now if it would just stay nice like this without going the other way and being to hot.

Procrastination
Hello all, here I am again the Queen of Procrastination rushing to get everything finished up before the Tuesday 11:59pm deadline. Luckily this is the last (school) project I have left to do. I planned on doing this much earlier today, but things don't always work out like you plan. I had several project to finish up and I didn't really think they would take that long to do. But, the whole day kinda moved in slow motion, and of course the more I tried to hurry things up the more mistakes I made and had to correct. And, only when you are in a great rush trying to focus your attention on one important thing, then the phone rings, people pop in to visit and peace is no where to be found, except late at night. So, here I sit typing as fast as my fat little fingers can type, trying to beat the clock.
